Earlier today, I spoke with Mark Leon Goldberg, author of the Global Dispatches newsletter and podcast about how President Donald Trump’s attempt to sidestep the United Nations through his new Board of Peace appears to have backfired. Trump’s widening of the charter of the board, originally intended to implement the ceasefire in the Gaza war, into a mediator of world conflicts chaired by him has not won support from any major powers. Trump has also refused to contribute to the U.N.’s regular and peacekeeping budgets, which Goldberg explains could have disastrous consequences for global hotspots, including the wars in Sudan and South Sudan.
