You might have heard that U.S. President Donald Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy yesterday with European leaders in a highly unusual August meeting in the White House, following Trump’s highly unusual meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Alaska. If you were confused about these meetings, you are not alone: European leaders and Trump have talked about things like “security guarantees” and “land swaps,” but they are far less than meets the eye.

Tomorrow, I will be discussing these meetings with Dave Keating, who writes the Gulf Stream Blues newsletter. He’s a Brussels-based journalist who focuses on European politics, and wide questions of Europe’s place in the world.
